Pandemic travelling by airplane
Static visualisation I made during the ‘Visualizing.org Marathon 2012′ working together with Sara Porco. The aim of the hackathon was to produce a visualisation in 48 hours. The data shows the spreading of the pandemic H1N1 virus: one of the fastest growing of all times, reaching a pandemic level 6 (highest risk of infection) in just two months. The global network of flights contributed to spread the virus around the world in a short timescale.
The study of the relationship between the volume of world air traffic and the transmission of the virus, in events of this magnitude, it could provide useful information to better understanding and manage the risks of our globalised world even terroristic ones.
