ABSENT DATA: Investigating missing and invisible data
Not all absences in data are accidental. Information may be impossible to collect, deliberately erased, neglected, obscured by uncertainty or excluded by the systems used to measure the world. Tiziana ongoing research into absent data examines these gaps as evidence of social priorities, political decisions and the boundaries of human knowledge.
The research forms the foundation of her forthcoming book, Absent Data: Why Gaps, Uncertainty, and Invisible Data Matter, published by Wiley in 2027. It is also informing a new series of artworks that explores how missing information can be identified, interpreted and given perceptible form.

twelve miles from the coast: inside the invisible infrastructure of maritime shipping
In May 2026, Tiziana spent a few days sailing aboard a working cargo ship in the Mediterranean Sea. Rose George’s book Ninety Percent of Everything, says that around 90% of global trade is transported by sea, yet the ships, labour and logistical systems that make this possible remain largely absent from everyday view.
Inspired by George’s book, Tiziana entered the infrastructure itself, investigating maritime shipping as a lived environment shaped by scale, repetition, isolation, labour and highly controlled movement.
The research brings together direct observation, conversations, photography, field recordings and operational data. It asks how an industry of extraordinary physical size can remain culturally and perceptually invisible and how artistic practice might make its systems and human realities more tangible.
This research culminates in a collaborative exhibition in September at Palazzo Ducale, Genoa, translating material gathered during the voyage into a two-channel audiovisual installation developed through the Ninety Percent of Everything artist residency.
Tiziana’s work is also developed through collaborations with curators, foundations, museums, and Fortune 500 companies to explore the invisible side of data. She is continually motivated to explore uncharted territories. Her work is ripe for collaboration with musicians, writers, thinkers, urbanists, geographers, scientists and other interdisciplinary artists.
